Due to printing mistake in class 12 English paper, Maharashtra Board will give six marks to all students who attempted the questions

Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) announced that students who have attempted wrong questions in the English paper of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) or Class 12 examination will be allotted six marks. Due to a printing mistake in the Class 12 English paper, the Maharashtra Board will award six marks to all students who attempted the questions.

“With 2 marks for three questions, a total of 6 marks will be allotted to students who fall in one of the three categories – those who have mentioned ‘Poetry Section 2’ in the answer sheets, those who attempted any other question There is only one section and finally those who wrote only the numbers of the questions (A3, A4, and A5) which had errors,” an official notice mentioned.

On March 3, there was a meeting of the moderators of the English subject, in which mistakes were also pointed out by the subject experts. During the meeting, it was decided to allot marks to the students who attempted the questions. According to media reports, three questions of two marks each were missing from the English question paper, while the model answers were printed below. A printing mistake was found on page 10 of the paper in the sub-section of question number three relating to a poem.

The student was unable to read or understand sub question numbers A3, A4 and A5 in question three section. The Maharashtra Board had printed instructions for the invigilators in place of the questions. Two marks were allotted to these specific questions, totaling six marks.

MSBSHSE was not able to resolve the issue of printing mistake on the same day as the subject moderators meeting could not be held due to boycott by junior college teachers associations. The boycott was withdrawn by the unions on Thursday, 2 March, and a meeting followed the next day. As per the schedule, the Maharashtra HSC exam is scheduled to end on March 20. This year, 14,57,293 students registered for class 12 examination in the state, out of which 7,92,780 are boys and 6,64,441 are girls.
