MUMBAI: As the testing numbers improve after the Diwali holiday, the daily number of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra A slight increase was recorded on Tuesday. Maharashtra reported 982 cases, including 274 cases from Mumbai.
Deaths in Maharashtra rose to 27 on Tuesday from 15 on Monday. Mumbai recorded only one death- the daily toll was zero on October 17 and one on September 21.
BMC additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani said on Monday, “We have conducted over 31,000 tests and plan to increase it further after the festive season is over.” He added that the daily test positivity rate has remained less than 1%. Cases rose slightly in Mumbai after restrictions on travel by local trains were eased on August 16, reaching 500-600 per day.
The weekly growth rate of Kovid infection in the city has fallen by one more decimal (0.03%) to the level present in the July-August period. Currently, only 13 buildings have been sealed in the entire city, indicating the end of the infection.
For the fifth day in a row, cases in Maharashtra have been less than 1,000. As against 60,000 tests on Sunday, 96,866 tests were conducted across the state on Monday. Only Mumbai (460), Pune (306) and Nashik (141) administrative regions reported three-digit numbers, while Akola and Nagpur regions had less than 10 cases. Active cases in the state decreased to 13,311 including 3,559 in Mumbai.
