Maharashtra: Educational institutions closed after heavy rains in Nashik; 6 devotees injured in flood near temple – Times of India

Mumbai, July 12 (PTI)School-colleges remain closed in MaharashtraPeople in the flood-affected areas of Nashik city on Tuesday have been asked to move to safer places after heavy rains in the last few days, officials said. He said that the city received 97.4 mm of rain in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Tuesday, but later the rain stopped, bringing some relief to the residents.

On Monday, there was heavy rain near the Saptashringi temple of the district. Officials said that six devotees suffered minor injuries during the flood on the steps of the temple.

District administration officials said road connectivity has been affected in many villages due to the floods. The India Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for North Maharashtra district from July 11 to 14, predicting very heavy rains.

“The decision to keep colleges and schools closed today has been taken as a precautionary measure. We are closely monitoring the rain situation,” an official of the district collectorate said.

He said shop owners and residents of some flood-affected areas have already been asked to move to safer places.

He said that a team of State Disaster Response Force has also reached Nashik for assistance.

The Saptashringi temple, located about 70 km from the city, received heavy rains on Monday.

Water flowed over a security wall on the return route from the temple. Six devotees who were descending the steps of the temple were injured. Temple officials said he was initially taken to the temple trust hospital and later taken to Vani for treatment.

Nashik city has been receiving heavy rains for the last few days, due to which the water level of Godavari river has increased.

However, due to the rain on Tuesday morning, the water from the Gangapur dam, which supplies drinking water to the city, is not draining.
