Maharashtra government to build 72 hostels for OBC students: Minister

The Maharashtra government is planning to construct 72 hostels for OBC students in all the 36 districts of the state, Cabinet Minister for Cooperatives, OBC and Bahujan Welfare Atul Save said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here in central Maharashtra, he said Revenue Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has directed all district collectors to allot land for these proposed hostels at the earliest.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Aurangabad (East) will conduct an employment campaign for youth in the city on Saturday (February 25). Around 40 companies, banks and skill development agencies are expected to participate in the campaign.

Talking about the OBC ministry and the welfare schemes launched by it, Save said, “We have plans to build 72 hostels for OBC students in 36 districts of Maharashtra. Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has instructed all district collectors to speed up the process of providing land for this. The minister said that the state government has increased the number of foreign scholarships from 10 earlier to 50 now.

An aeroplane-flying training program has seen the enrollment of 20 male candidates this year. From next year, 20 women candidates will be enrolled under the programme, Sawe said.
