Maharashtra issues new COVID restrictions as Omicron cases reach 100. violate

Ahead of the holiday season, the Maharashtra government on Friday issued a new set of guidelines by the new Omron edition amid the recent Covid-19 surge. Measures include a 9-hour nightly restriction, the number of guests in the enclosed and open air, and others. Maharashtra on Friday became the first state in India to cross the 100 mark in the number of omicron cases after 20 new omicron cases were reported in the state.

Here’s what’s allowed and what isn’t:

  • The state government said that there will be a ban on gathering of more than five persons from 9 pm to 6 am in public places across Maharashtra.
  • In gatherings other than social, political or religious gatherings, the number of attendees shall not exceed 50% of the total capacity in closed spaces where seats are fixed and immovable.
  • The number of attendees should not exceed 25% of the capacity where seats are not fixed.
  • At sporting events, the number of people cannot exceed 25% of the venue’s capacity.
  • Gyms, spas, hotels, theaters and cinema halls can operate at a maximum capacity of 50%.

The state’s Omicron coronavirus variant tally rose to 108 on Friday after new cases were reported on Friday. 54 out of 108 patients have already been discharged. According to a bulletin, 11 new cases of Omicron were reported from Mumbai, six from Pune, two from Satara and one from Ahmednagar.

Of these new patients, 15 have international travel history, one patient has domestic travel history while four others came in close contact with them. One patient is a minor while six patients are above 60 years of age.

On December 21, the Center advised states to impose night curfew-like restrictions, regulate large gatherings. Increase in bed capacity and other logistics and strict enforcement of COVID appropriate behaviour.
