Thane: Police seizes 2,500 kg beef worth Rs 2.50 lakh from a van Thane City In Maharashtra and arrested one person, police said on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, police and activists intercepted the van near Brihaspati Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday and said red meat was being smuggled into Mumbai, an official said.
The arrested person has been identified as Aslam Fakir Mohammad Sheikh who was driving the vehicle.
case has been registered under Maharashtra Animal Protection Act, Indian Penal Code, and motor vehicle act, said the officer.
