Mumbai:

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Maharashtra Rural Development Minister Hassan Mushrif on Monday said he will file a Rs 100-crore defamation suit against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya.

Briefing media persons, Mr. Mushrif said, “The allegations being leveled by Kirit Somaiya are part of a larger conspiracy by BJP and Chandrakant Patil is its mastermind. I condemn the use of central agencies by the Center against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). And on the issue of (former Mumbai Police Commissioner) Parambir Singh. This is the reason why I am being framed by BJP through Kirit Somaiya to stop me.

“All allegations against me and my family are false and baseless. I am going to file Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Kirit Somaiya. Kirit Somaiya should apologize to me. I am going to file 150-core hybrid annuity against Chandrakant Patil. I will file an FIR for scams done during the BJP government,” he said.

Mr Somaiya last week alleged that Mr Mushrif and his family members are involved in money laundering and have stake in shell companies.

Speaking to media persons, the BJP leader had said, “Hasan Mushrif, his wife Sahera Hasan Mushrif and their son Navid Mushrif, the entire Mushrif family has a stake in these fraudulent practices in money laundering and benami assets.”

He alleged, “There are records in various agencies that the companies in which these people were involved are actually shell companies. In his election affidavit, he has mentioned these shell companies. I don’t know how he can do that.” “

To substantiate his claims, Somaiya produced some documents and an election affidavit of Hasan Mushrif.

“Tomorrow, I will file a formal complaint against Hasan Mushrif in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) along with documentary evidence. The day after tomorrow, I will be in Delhi and will meet finance ministry officials to register my complaint there also. I have two others with me. There are names. Ministers with their corruption details. One of them is from NCP and the other is from Shiv Sena,” he had said.

Notably, Mr. Somaiya was about to visit properties owned by Mr. Mushrif in Kolhapur, which he claims have led to corruption. However, he was detained at Karad railway station on his way to Kolhapur.

Earlier, Mr Somaiya had leveled money laundering charges against Maharashtra cabinet ministers Chhagan Bhujbal and Anil Parab.
