‘Major victory’: Uddhav faction after EC allots new party name

The Election Commission of India allotted a new name for the Uddhav faction of Shiv Sena party which will now be known as ‘Shiv Sena – Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’. The leaders of the faction were happy and considered the new name a big victory as it included Balasaheb Thackeray’s name.

After the allocation of the new name, Bhaskar Jadhav from the Uddhav faction said, “We are happy, consider this a big victory.”

The allotment of the new name follows the allocation of a new election symbol for the faction which has been allotted ‘flaming torch’ (torch) as the election symbol for the current by-election.

Until the Election Commission takes a decision on the dispute between Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the new name and symbol will remain the identity of the Uddhav faction. The factions led by both the leaders lay claim to the Shiv Sena party and its symbol ‘bow and arrow’.

As for the Shinde faction, the Election Commission allotted them ‘Balasahebunchi Shiv Sena’ as the new name. The Commission has given them time till tomorrow to submit three alternatives of symbols after their existing options of ‘Trishul’, ‘Ugte Suraj’ and ‘Gada’ were rejected by the Commission as these symbols are in the list of “free symbols”. were not”.

The inclusion of Balasaheb Thackeray in the new name of both the factions shows how both the factions are claiming the legacy of the late stalwart who built the Shiv Sena from the very beginning.

While the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction attacked the Shinde faction as a ‘traitor’ for Balasaheb’s legacy, the Shinde faction also accused the former chief minister of joining hands with those (Congress and NCP) against whom Balasaheb always kept fighting.
