NS University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notice urging universities, colleges and higher education institutions to start apprenticeship or internship embedded degree programs. The commission said that this would help in preparing the fresh graduates for employment with the required knowledge, competencies and attitude.

“Keeping in view the interests of the students and the society at large, you are requested to kindly promote apprenticeship/internship embedded degree programs in your university as well as in the college/institutions affiliated to your university,” the statement said. “

The UGC has also directed colleges that are already offering apprenticeship and internship embedded degree programs, upload relevant information by filling a Google form attached with the notification and submit it by October 10. recently, The commission has also urged higher education institutions to consider applied mathematics. as the main subject for admission to undergraduate courses. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced this subject as an academic optional subject for class 11 and 12 students to enhance their mathematical skills and knowledge.

The UGC, in its September 15 letter, has said that 80 per cent marks for theory in applied mathematics and 20 per cent for practical in board exams are included. The commission said that the subject is a regular academic subject and hence, the marks obtained by the candidates in this subject can be taken into account for computing the total marks during admission.
