Maker of ‘Sully Deals’ app arrested from Indore, Madhya Pradesh: Delhi Police

Delhi Police has arrested a man believed to be the creator of the “Sully Deals” app from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, officials said on January 9.

This is the first arrest in the “Sully Deal” app case, the police said.

Hundreds of Muslim women were listed for “auction” on the mobile application, in which photographs were taken and manipulated without permission.

He said that the accused Omkareshwar Thakur (26) has done BCA from IPS Academy in Indore and is a resident of New York City township.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra said that during preliminary interrogation the accused admitted that he was a member of a group on Twitter and the idea of ​​defaming and trolling Muslim women was shared there.

“She developed the code on GitHub. All members of the group had access to GitHub. She shared the app on her Twitter account. The pictures of Muslim women were uploaded by the group members,” the official said. The investigation revealed that the accused had joined the group ‘Trade Mahasabha’ on Twitter with the handle @gangescion in January 2020.

Police said that during various group discussions, members had spoken of trolling Muslim women.

“He admitted that he developed the code/app on GitHub. After the uproar about the Sully Deal app, he had deleted all his social media footprint,” the DCP said.

Delhi Police said that further analysis of technical equipment is being done to trace the code/images related to the app.

Earlier in July, a case was registered by the Cyber ​​Cell of Delhi Police after an unidentified group received a complaint about uploading of pictures of Muslim women on an app.

Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal had earlier said, “Acting on a complaint received on the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal regarding ‘Sully Deals’ mobile application, a case has been registered under Section 354-A of the Indian Penal Code. And investigation has been started.” Indore Police on Sunday said that their Delhi counterparts have not shared any information with them regarding the arrest.
