Air India is making headlines (again) for all the wrong reasons. This time a passenger complained about the lack of cleanliness in the food served on the plane. Passenger named Mahavir Jain shared a video on Twitter and said that he saw a worm in his business class meal. Tagging Air India, Jain wrote, ‘Worm in the food served in business class.’ It is shown in the video that a small worm is crawling on top of the food in the plate. This clip has created a lot of headlines on social media.

Tata-owned Air India quickly responded to the complaint, saying they follow strict hygiene standards. The complaint was acknowledged by the official Twitter account of Air India. The tweet read, “Dear Mr Jain, We are sorry to know about your experience while flying with us. This is not a good thing to hear. We strictly follow measures to ensure hygiene at every stage of the process.”

People have expressed disappointment with the services provided by Air India.

One user wrote, “Air India is losing its charm. My flight was canceled without any notice to me. All he said was ‘sorry’.

Another said, “Ok, we will take action against our catering team/ rather than just ‘highlighting’ it can be a satisfactory answer, even if you don’t take it.”

The airline also requested Jain’s flight details and seat number so that the catering team could be informed about the issue. To this Jain replied, ‘It doesn’t seem that hygiene was taken care of. My flight was AI671 – Mumbai to Chennai. Seat 2C.”

The incident comes a day after renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor criticized Air India for the quality of in-flight food. The chef was on a flight from Nagpur to Mumbai. The meal included chilled chicken tikka with watermelon and cucumber, a sandwich with very little stuffing, and a dessert that was a sponge dipped in sugar syrup, he said in a tweet that included a picture of the meal.

To this Air India said, ‘We are sorry for your disappointing experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. However, we have taken your valuable feedback into consideration with concern. We’ll make sure to pass on your comments to the right team as it will help us improve.”
