‘Man Who Made Spin Cool’: Tribute To Former Australian Cricketer

Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has died of a suspected heart attack in Thailand, according to a statement from his management. He was 52 years old. Warne’s management issued a brief statement to Australian media saying that he had died in Koh Samui, Thailand.

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of the medical staff, could not be revived,” said the statement made by various media outlets here. “The family requests confidentiality at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

He was the second highest wicket-taker in Test history and only Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has more wickets than him with 800. What Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar felt had “been too small” at Warne’s death. He wrote on Twitter, “Shocked, shocked and saddened … Will miss you Warne. Never had a dull moment with you, on or off. Field. Will always cherish our on-field doubles and off-field banter. For India You’ve always had a special place and Indians have a special place for you. Got too young!”

Sir Vivian Richards also expressed grief over Warne’s death on Twitter. “Unbelievable. I’m shocked to the core. It can’t be true… Rest in peace, @ShaneWarne. No words to describe what I feel right now. Huge loss for cricket.” they wrote.

Bollywood also paid tribute to Warne.

Ranveer Singh posted a picture of the legend with a broken heart emoji on Instagram.

Urmila Matondkar also expressed grief over Warne’s death and tweeted, “Deeply shocked & saddened to hear about the untimely demise of #cricket legend Shane Warne. Great Australian leg spinner..he will be missed..! rest in peace!!”

Diana Penty also called it a sad day for cricket.

Other celebrities who paid tribute to the cricketer include Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal, Pulkit Samrat.

Union ministers also expressed grief and condolence over Warne’s death.

“Saddened by the news of the passing of Shane Warne, an iconic cricketer and a great spinner. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace,” tweeted Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

“He troubled an entire generation of cricket fans around the world with his spin. Cricket has lost one of its great icons. Deepest condolences to his family and friends. Shenwarn played well. Rest in peace!,” Union Minister Piyush Goyal shared on Twitter.

Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah also condoled Warne’s sudden demise, tweeting, “Shocking news and very sad to lose someone at such a relatively young age. That man was an absolute legend. Peace be upon you.” Relax and God’s speed Shenwarn.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also condoled Warne’s death. “Shocked to learn of the sudden demise of Australian spin legend #ShaneWarne. Can’t avoid, but can say ‘gone too soon’. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, fans and cricket fraternity who mourn the loss of a true talent,” he tweeted.
