The man who made the threat call to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s Nagpur office demanding Rs 100 crore is a jail inmate in Karnataka’s Belagavi town who was recently sentenced to death by a court in a murder case. sunday.

The caller, who claimed that he was a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, has been identified as Jayesh Pujari. A senior official said that prima facie he made the call using a mobile phone from the jail.

A team of Nagpur Police’s crime branch, led by an assistant inspector, reached Belagavi late on Saturday night. He said the team may request the jail authorities to allow them to interrogate Pujari on Monday.

At least three threat calls were received on the landline number of Gadkari’s public relations office in Khamla area in Nagpur between 11.25 am and 12.30 pm on Saturday, following which security at the Nagpur MP’s home and office was tightened. Belongs to BJP. ,

The police officer said, “Pujari was sentenced to death by a court in a murder case. He is a dreaded goon who managed to escape from jail in 2016. He was later arrested by the Karnataka Police.”

He said Pujari had made threat calls to some senior officials in the past. The police had said, “The caller told the phone operator in Mr Gadkari’s office that he was a member of the D gang and demanded Rs 100 crore from the minister. He threatened to harm the minister with a bomb. ” first.

The caller also shared his mobile number and the address in Karnataka where he said the money should be sent.
