Manchester City win the 2022/23 Premier League after Nottingham Forest beat Arsenal 1-0 at the City Ground

by Raunak SehrawatPep Guardiola’s Manchester City have won their third consecutive Premier League title after Arsenal were beaten 0-1 by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. City became only the second team after Manchester United to win three consecutive titles in the Premier League era.

City now have a four-point lead over the Gunners which cannot be overcome as they have just one more game to play in the league. The Citizens will now receive a guard of honor at their upcoming game against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

It was City’s seventh Premier League title in 12 years under Abu Dhabi’s ownership. It was also Guardiola’s fifth league title in England. He is behind only former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson (13) in terms of league titles won.

arsenal defeat vs forest

The Gunners were weak in front of goal as they took 11 shots against Nottingham Forest with 82% possession. Striker Taiwo Awonyi opened the scoring for the hosts in the 19th minute, after which he defended confidently. The victory also ensured that Forest were safe from relegation in their first season back in England’s top flight since 1999.

On 1 April, Arsenal led the Premier League table by eight points, but a severe drop in form forced them to hand the trophy to City with three games still to play in the league. The Gunners managed just two wins in their last eight Premier League matches, despite being knocked out of all other cup competitions.

Citi turns its attention to Treble

Manchester City will now turn their attention to two cup finals, first in the FA Cup final against city rivals Manchester United, followed by a clash against Italian giants Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul.

If Guardiola’s side complete the treble, they will become only the second English team (after Manchester United) and only the eighth European team to achieve the feat.
