Mandaviya reviews COVID situation in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu

New Delhi Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday reviewed the COVID-19 situation in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Due to rising cases in Kerala, the Union Health Minister discussed the COVID-19 management interventions in the areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states bordering Kerala in a telephonic conversation with the Health Ministers of the respective states.

Highlighting the need to take adequate steps to contain the inter-state spread of Covid-19, Mandaviya urged the health ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to speed up vaccination in the border districts of Kerala.

The Health Minister, who also holds the Department of Chemicals and Fertilizers, reviewed the supply and availability of essential medicines related to COVID-19 in the country. During review it was found that adequate stock of all essential medicines are available. The raw material for these medicines is also available in sufficient quantity. The government said in a statement that a strategic buffer stock has been created for eight drugs, all of which are available in the country. The drugs used in the management of COVID-19 are Tocilizumab, Methyl Prednisolone, Anaxopyrin, Dexamethasone, Remdesivir, Amphotericin B, Deoxycholate, Posaconazole and Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG).

According to government data released on Wednesday, India on Tuesday delivered the highest ever 1.33 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses in a single day.

According to the data of the Union Health Ministry, 65.41 crore vaccine doses have been given so far under the nationwide vaccination campaign. The Union Health Ministry said that more than 18.3 crore doses have been given in the month of August.

The feat was achieved five days after India saw its first day of administration of 1 crore vaccine doses. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has also crossed the 65 crore (65,12,14,767) milestone on Tuesday.

The Union Health Ministry said that more than 64.51 crore (64,51,07,160) vaccine doses have been provided to the States/UTs so far through the Government of India (free channel) and the Direct State Procurement category. It added that the balance amount of more than ₹ 5.21 crore (5,21,37,660) and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the states/UTs.

India recorded 41,965 new coronavirus cases with 462 deaths in the last 24 hours. Health ministry data shows that active cases account for 1.15% of the total cases.

India’s active caseload stands at 3,78,181 and the recovery rate currently stands at 97.51%. Weekly positivity rate (2.58%) less than 3% for the last 68 days. The daily positivity rate was reported to be 2.61% and over 52.31 crore total COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far.
