Jayam Ravi (Arunmozhi Varman aka Ponniyin Selvan):

ps 1 There were too many character introductions and something new was happening every 15 minutes; That kind of script was exciting. In ps 2, it would be like a climax from the get-go. Afterwards ps 1 Based on the comments it received, improvements have been made to the sequel; This film will definitely be an upgraded version.

In ps 1, Despite being a prince, my character would be in regular dress or as a mahout as he is in disguise. The second part is a rebirth of sorts for him and his return to Thanjai on the scintillating ‘Veera Raja Veera’ track will be a highlight.

The response to the project has been incredible. We have heard that old people come to cinema halls with oxygen cylinders and sticks PS. Theater owners called me up and said that some audience members came with tiffin boxes, not knowing that it has been many years since theaters allowed outside food! We have also heard stories of theater owners repeatedly requesting audiences to allow those who haven’t seen the film to watch it once.

Trisha (Kundawai):

PS A story that longed to be made into a film since the days of MGR. I am glad that I got to be a part of it and it feels good to be the face of Kundawai. The first part was a character introduction for the entire cast. while the romance is in the part ps 1 were limited to talking with our eyes and a sense of flirtatiousness ps 2 There will be more romance and it will be clear that Kundavai and Vandiyadevan like each other.

i am from chennai ponnu And I have grown up watching Mani sir’s films. So we don’t even think about how a female character would be in his film; You just know how it is. We go blind and follow everything Mani sir says, but he also makes sure we have a few months of prep time, giving us space to process the character. This made things a lot easier on the sets. After a film like this, there is obviously pressure as to what we are doing next. It also behooves us to be careful with the type of movies we choose in the future.

Karthi (Vallavarayan Vandiadevan):

There are all kinds of genres in the novel; Romance and suspense yo action and history, and that was why adapting Kalki’s work was such a challenge. Making it into a movie should appeal to people who haven’t read the books, as well as satisfy those who have.

My mother rarely calls for compliments, but she called and told me the film was wonderful. I was worried about how my wife would take the fact that my character was known for her flirtation, but she was also happy that the character was dignified.

as far as ps 2 As far as that is concerned, the film will be interesting even for those who have read the novels. Vandiyadevan meets Nandini and Kundavai once again when they are alone. ps 2, And the situation is different from his previous visits. So my character needed improvisation on how he would talk and react.

My father often says that the way the name of the eater is on each grain of rice, in the same way the name of the actor performing in each frame is there. I got to play a role that has surpassed many actors over the years and I have given it my best. It’s nice to hear so many people saying that they can’t see anyone other than me in that role.

To us both the films seem like just one project; We have already talked a lot about it, but at the same time it still seems new. The character I played, Parthibendran Pallavan, will be seen more in ps 2 And he is a part of many important scenes. To be a part of such a project is truly unforgettable.

Ponniyin Selvan Being my first film in Tamil, there was a lot of curiosity and excitement about how my character would be accepted. I enjoyed it a lot because my role is so dramatically different from what I’ve had before, and it was truly a privilege and a pleasure. I believe we all have different shades, and in cinema, we rarely get a chance to showcase all of them. Thanks to the well-written characters and screenplay, the film gave us a chance to perform.

Director Mani Ratnam:

Such well-defined characters were written by Kalki in her novel; They are neither just black nor white, they have all colors. As we had such defined characters and actors who were ready to prepare and do homework, it was easy. There was a lot of material to cram into two movies, so you try to take the basic elements and put them in a sequence where it peaks at one point and fades to another. I think the books were divided in the same way.

Karikalan’s part in the novel may be minor but his references are very strong and I believe this is the basis of the novel. PS, In writing one can easily refer to characters talking about a person… but as a film we have to show it.

Since we shot both the films simultaneously, we didn’t have to make much changes in the sequel. ps 1 introduction, ps 2 The original movie is there, and we believe the sequel will shine even brighter than the first part. While doing a film, this is my only passion and though there are many books on Ponniyin Selvan, I haven’t read them.

The movie is releasing on 28th April and from the next day onwards I will read whatever book I recommend (laughs), Also, the film is not the same without AR Rahman. While we have told the film through visuals, he has parallely told the story through music. He knows where to underline, pause, pick up and turn emotion into music.

Going forward there will be more long-form content in Tamil. It has a different rhythm; I’ve gotten used to a certain format over the years that’s hard to break out of, but such formats are liberating for a storyteller. We don’t have to limit ourselves to just making a two and a half hour film and that’s great.
