Mysore: Manipal HospitalThe heart and vascular team of the U.S. has successfully performed 12 complex aortic procedures in the last 36 months. The procedures were performed in patients of different age groups ranging from 38 to 77 years.
The aorta is the largest artery of the human body. It takes full output of blood from the heart with every heartbeat throughout our lifetime. The great vessel gives branches to all the major organs of the body such as the heart, brain, kidney, liver, intestines and organs. Aortic disease and injuries are often life-threatening with 40–50% of patients dying.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, Dr CB Keshavamurthy, Head, Consultant Interventional Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon Dr Upendra Shenoy Explained about the various procedures that are done while performing this type of complex aortic surgery.
