Manipur Governor La Ganesan given additional charge of West Bengal after Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation

Manipur Governor La Ganesan has been given the additional charge of Governor of West Bengal following Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation. President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar as the Governor of West Bengal.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday accepted the resignation of Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. Manipur Governor La Ganesan has been given the additional charge of discharging the functions of the Governor of West Bengal till regular arrangements are made.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has chosen Jagdeep Dhankhar has been elected as the Vice PresidentThe elections for which are to be held on August 6.

“The President of India has accepted the resignation of Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar as the Governor of West Bengal,” a late night release said.

“The President of India has appointed Shri La Ganesan, the Governor of Manipur to discharge the functions of the Governor of West Bengal, in addition to his own duties, from the date on which he assumes the office of the Governor of West Bengal, unless Regular arrangements are not made,” it further read.

Earlier in the day, opposition parties elected former Union minister and veteran Congress Leader Margaret Alva Her Choice as Vice President, His candidature was announced today by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar.

The BJP called a meeting of the Parliamentary Board on Saturday to choose the party’s candidate for the post of Vice President of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other senior party leaders attended the meeting.
