In Manipur, violence broke out between tribals and the majority Meitei community, which displaced more than 9,000 people from their villages. The ‘shoot at sight’ order was issued by the northeastern state’s governor on Thursday, adding that all magistrates can issue the order when persuasion, warning and reasonable force “have been exhausted and the situation cannot be controlled”. .

Army and Assam Rifles conducted flag marches in Khuga, Tampa and Khomoujanba areas of Churachandpur. Flag marches were conducted in Mantripukhri, Lamphel, Koirangi areas of Imphal Valley and Sugnoo in Kakching district on Thursday.

Indian Army says situation under control, efforts underway to restore normalcy

In the wake of clashes in parts of Manipur, the Indian Army said that the situation in Moreh and Kangpokpi areas has been brought under control and stabilised.

Indian Army further said that all efforts are being made to restore normalcy in Imphal and Churachandpur area.

Indian Army officials said, “The situation in Moreh and Kangpokpi is under control and is stable. All efforts are underway to restore normalcy in Imphal and Churachandpur. Precautionary preparation of additional troops is underway in Manipur.”
