Manipuris will play an important role in Tripura elections, will persuade them to vote for BJP here: CM Biren Singh

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh was in Tripura on Friday to campaign for the upcoming assembly elections. The BJP has fielded Singh to appeal to the state’s Manipuri voters.

News18 Spoke to the Chief Minister about how the Manipuri factor will affect the Tripura elections this time. Excerpts from an interview:

What is your message for the Manipuri voters of Tripura?

The Northeast has seen immense development under the able leadership of Modi ji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi). This part of the country has completely changed and that’s why I am here in Tripura to preach. Things were bad in Tripura five years ago; The roads were narrow and slum-like and the condition of his capital Agartala was similar.

We have over two lakh Manipuris living in Tripura and they will be a deciding factor in various constituencies. He will play an important role. I have come here to explain to them how important it is to vote for this government because development is happening.

What are your thoughts on Tipra Motha?

While he (Tipra Motha) is saying that it is working for the indigenous people of Tripura, it is only Modi ji who is doing so. The BJP has been successful in keeping the Tripuris together. It doesn’t want division, and the prime minister’s focus is that everyone should live together with their indigenous unit. We believe in ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas’.

The opposition is saying that there is a law and order problem in Tripura. What’s your take on this?

Look what the communists did. They were going around and killing people and that’s nothing compared to that. There must have been one or two minor incidents, nothing more than that.

People say you are good with predictions. What numbers do you expect for BJP in Tripura?

I had said 40 for Manipur and it happened. Here we will get more than 49 seats.
