Many areas of Mumbai plunged into darkness due to another power failure

Several areas of Mumbai remained dark on Monday evening due to power outages, which were termed as “technical glitches”.

The outage comes amid several disruptions in power supply faced by the financial capital last month amid severe power shortage, which has forced state-run discom MSEDCL to start load-shedding in several parts of Maharashtra.

Suburbs like Bandra, Santacruz and Chembur and pockets like Dadar in central Mumbai reported outages for more than 15 minutes starting at 2130.

Adani Electricity Mumbai said 1.8 lakh consumers it serves were affected as equipment from rival Tata Power failed at the Dharavi receiving station.

Tata Power tried to pin the blame on Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company, claiming that the power tripping lasted for around 7 minutes.

An official spokesperson said, “Tripping of 220kV MSETCL OLTS protection at their Trombay receiving station has resulted in a short-term (approximately 7 minutes) power tripping incident today, leading to the shutdown of 160MW load at Tata Power’s Dharavi receiving station. ” ,

About ten days ago, the state-run Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking, which had witnessed several outages in the areas served by it, had said that the ongoing heatwave was leading to excess demand from consumers, resulting in increased supply. being interrupted. Unable to keep pace with the demand.

“Due to the large rise in temperature, people are using more ACs and fans, resulting in sudden huge demand and consumption of electricity. This could affect the network and cause cable or feeder faults in the entire island city,” a spokesperson of the civic body-run undertaking had said.

The city has suffered several times in February this year and in comparison to the previous month as the state government has accepted a shortfall of around 3,000 MW. PTI AA RSY RSY
