Several organizations across the city celebrated International Women’s Day, while the ongoing Legislature session also marked the day in a special way.

In the Vidhan Sabha, women members discussed issues related to women. Women members expressed concern over prejudices and gender stereotypes against the girl child, irrespective of party affiliation. He underlined the role of the government in promoting women in all fields.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai lauded the innate economic spirit of Indian women, which he said has brought Indian families out of financial crisis many times.

During a Women’s Day event at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Director of Education KC Narayanaswamy spoke about the need for schemes to further empower women in rural areas. He said that about 55% of the students in the Agricultural University are now women.

The All India Democratic Women’s Association, Karnataka State Committee said in a release that the day symbolizing women’s struggle for equality should not be allowed to be appropriated as a marketing tool by companies.

While the Hitaishini Women’s Study Centre, Samkalina Mahila Vedike organized a debate on “war and women” on Tuesday, the Karnataka Shakti Wing of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association provided a year-long supply of sanitary napkins to the inmates of GB Hostel in Chamarajpet. Donated to This hostel houses 110 young girls and women studying and working in Bangalore.
