Margaret Alva files nomination for Vice Presidential election, along with top opposition leaders

The joint opposition candidate for the vice presidential election, Margaret Alva, filed her nomination papers for the post on Tuesday and was accompanied by several leaders.

The Vice President’s election will be held on August 6 to elect the successor of M Venkaiah Naidu, whose term ends on August 10.

Alva was joined by top opposition leaders including Congress’s Rahul Gandhi, NCP’s Sharad Pawar, CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s D Raja, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. While filing your nomination.

On Monday, Alva thanked the opposition parties who supported her candidature, saying, “There is no doubt that it is a difficult election, but I am not afraid to take up the challenge.”

The 80-year-old is pitted against the NDA’s Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned as West Bengal’s governor after being nominated on Saturday evening.

Former Rajasthan governor and Congress veteran Alva was on Sunday unanimously elected as the joint opposition candidate for the post of vice-president.

All MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including nominated members, join the electoral college for the election of the Vice-President.
