Director General of Police (DGP) KV Rajendranath Reddy told Nellore SP Ch. Vijaya Rao asked for the suspension of the Maripadu police station staff allegedly responsible for the suicide of a disabled person, Tirupati.

talking to Hindu On Saturday Mr. Vijaya Rao said that Maripadu SI T Venkata Ramana, ASI T. Jayaraju and Constable V. Santosh and SK. Chand Basha repeatedly brought the victim to the police station in a theft case from July 16 to 23.

Farmers of Chunchunuru village of Marripadu mandal alleged that some unidentified persons stole the barbed wire from around the fields. Suspecting that Tirupati might have committed theft, the police took into custody Tirupati, who was working as a watchman in the fields, and allegedly thrashed him.

Fearing more police action, Tirupati allegedly consumed poison and died. The SP said that the SI, ASI and two constables have been suspended following the instructions of the DGP.
