Mathura: As protests against the proposed development of the Banke Bihari Temple Corridor in Mathura escalated, local residents and shopkeepers have now sent letters written in blood to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The protesters said the proposed development was unnecessary and would rob them of their ancestral homes and affect their livelihood.

Furthermore, the construction would ruin the heritage value of the area.

Over 300 shops and houses are to be demolished for the proposed corridor.

Banke Bihari Bazar Sangh president Amit Gautam said on Tuesday, “Over 300 shops operating in the vicinity of the temple remained closed on Monday in protest against the proposed development of the corridor.”

“We have written a letter to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister using our blood as ink that the area should not be allowed to go waste in the name of a flawed plan of development.”

He said that if the government does not withdraw the scheme, the protest will intensify.

An eight-member committee for the proposed corridor completed a survey earlier this month on the orders of the Allahabad High Court.
