After IIT-IIM matrimonial sites, the ‘Medico Life Partner’ website is here, one-sided. If classism, casteism and other such stigmas were not already rampant in India, a new way of segregation seems to have been discovered. According to the website, only doctors looking for life partners are allowed to register. “Doctors of all religion, caste, geography can register on the site,” it says. However, the website does not verify the information provided by those who register on it. The responsibility for this lies with the parents and the “candidates” themselves. There are over 21,000 people registered on the site as of the writing of this article.
Medico Life Partners, of course, found its way to Twitter and people had a thing or two to say. While most found this ridiculous, some believed that doctors marry other doctors because it could make their lives more “convenient”.

Not sure what’s wrong with it. There’s a reason why you find most doctors marrying other doctors makes life a lot more convenient. https://t.co/cdb2Gx91QU

Recently, the founder of the website ‘IIT IIM Shaadi’ is being trolled on social media for launching a matrimony platform that specifically calls people “top few Indian and global institutions (management, engineering, architecture, medicine)”. Helps to find partners who have graduated from , Mass Communication, CA / CS / ICWA / CFA, Fashion Design and many more)”. The website tagline reads: “Alma mater matters”. Several Twitter users looked at the LinkedIn profile of founder Taksh Gupta, which mentioned that he studied at the SP Jain School of Global Management.
While many trolled Gupta fiercely on the microblogging platform, others said that one need not graduate from the above institutes to launch an app that caters to such individuals. However, the premise of matrimony apps is debatable in itself, as users of these platforms are often known to perpetuate class, caste and other social prejudices. An additional layer of bias could potentially be harmful.
