Lando Norris got a surprise P3 in his McLaren followed by Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull. Carlos Sainz Jr. was then in the lead at Ferrari for the P5. Valtteri Bottas, in his last race for Mercedes, could only manage P6 which could prove decisive for Hamilton as he was hoping for support from his teammate on a track known to be difficult to overtake .

Charles Leclerc manages a P7 in the other Ferrari as he tries to get to a P5 in the championship. His job will be over as Norris’s McLaren is in front of his car and appears to be speeding. Yuki Tsunoda turned it on and managed the P8 in Alphatauri ahead of Esteban Okan in the Alpine who managed the P9. Daniele Ricciardo managed P10 in the second McLaren, meaning it would be quite difficult for McLaren to snatch P3 from Ferrari in the constructors.

The Yas Marina circuit is considered difficult to overtake, setting the right environment for the championship decider.

Fernando Alonso fought for P11 in the other Alpine, but was ahead of Pierre Gasly who managed P12 at Alphatauri. Lance Stroll managed to overtake his teammate Vettel in P13 for Aston Martin. The German however only managed P15, although he was ahead of Antonio Giovinazzi, who is in his last race for Alfa Romeo.

Nicholas Latifi overtakes George Russell to get P16 for Williams. Russell, who is in his last race for Williams before moving to Mercedes to replace Bottas, managed P17. Kimi Raikkonen, who retired after this race, only managed P18. Then there was the Haas pairing of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.

It is well set up to look like the cracker of a race. Hamilton will have to beat Verstappen to win his record 8th world title, breaking Michael Schumacher’s record. If things remain the same after qualifying Max Verstappen, he will be crowned world champion. Red Bull also has a chance to snatch the constructor from Mercedes as Perez is now in P4 while Bottas is in P6.
