Medium-level CBSE Class 12 Economics exam, essential understanding of concepts, say experts

central board of secondary education (CBSE) conducted the Class 12 Economics paper today, May 28. According to experts, it was between easy to moderate. The students found the paper long. The paper had questions on both basic understanding and application of concepts. Experts said that a good understanding of concepts is required to score well in the paper.

The questions from Macro Economics were mostly based on concepts and application. It was meant to test the students’ understanding of the concepts. While Indian economic development had questions from the current issues and challenges of the Indian economy, experts said.

“In Macro Economics, the questions were to test the basic understanding of concepts and application. In the Indian Economic Development part, most of the questions reflect the current issues and challenges of the Indian economy. Overall, the paper was balanced and had a perfect combination of basic understanding and application of concepts,” said Sunita De, PGT- Economics, Modern English School, Guwahati.

“The pattern and difficulty level of the question paper was very similar” CBSE sample paper, so the level of difficulty in the questions included in the question paper was easy to moderate,” she said.

“The paper had one or two difficult and intense questions which could be answered by the students who had prepared well for the exam. The questions with 2 marker were quite straight forward. The 3 marker questions were text, numerical and application based which required intensive writing, however, they did not require any diagram anywhere,” explained Sudeshna Bhattacharya, HOD Economics, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Ghaziabad.

“The questions of 5 marks, one of which was a case-based question, was straightforward and easy to find. Although his language was a bit long, it was easy. The paper required writing and attention till the last minute,” she said.

“The paper was moderate on the difficulty level as well as lengthy. About 50 percent paper was knowledge based. Some questions were based on Application and Critical Thinking. To score well, it was necessary to have in-depth knowledge of the subject,” said Vanika Deep, PGT-Economics, VidyaGyan School, Bulandshahr.
