Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy to lead Australia squad for Women’s T20 World Cup defense

The five-time champions are favorites in next month’s tournament in South Africa after leg-spinner Georgia Wareham’s return from a long injury lay-off has further boosted their rankings.

Australia on Tuesday announced a formidable squad to defend their Women’s Twenty20 World Cup title, led by Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry and a fit Alyssa Healy once again.

The five-time champions are favorites in next month’s tournament in South Africa as leg-spinner Georgia Wareham’s return to form after a long injury lay-off has boosted their rankings.

Wicketkeeper Healy has been battling a calf problem in India in December but was also named in the 15-woman squad and is expected to play

“Georgia in particular has suffered with injuries but has shown a lot of resilience and her return is a real boost to the side.”

Australia will begin their World Cup defense against New Zealand on February 12 before pool games against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Australia will warm up with a home T20 and one-day series against Pakistan before traveling to South Africa.
