Mega Tribal Outreach Event on Monday Demands Reconstruction of BJP Poll Base in Madhya Pradesh

A mega event to be addressed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi To mark Tribal Pride Day on November 15 is part of the ruling BJP’s plan to bring back the tribals of Madhya Pradesh, especially after the cold shoulder from the region in 2018 after 15 years of uninterrupted rule lost power in the state. Gave.

According to the 2011 census, tribals constitute 1.53 crore or 21.08 percent of the state’s 7.26 crore population, and 47 assembly seats in the 230-member house are reserved for scheduled tribes.

Political observers said tribals have at least 50,000 votes in 35 other assembly seats, and this clause could once again make a difference for the ruling BJP in the 2023 state elections. The Congress had managed to clinch power in 2018 after trouncing the BJP and winning 31 out of 47 ST seats in the state, with the rest gone later.

In 2003, the BJP had managed to oust the Congress government of Digvijay Singh by winning 37 of the 41 ST seats. Observers say the catalyst for the BJP’s rise to power was a huge ‘Hindu convention’ held in Jhabua in 2002 in which more than two lakh tribals participated.

In the 2008 assembly elections, when the delimitation exercise increased the ST seats to 47, the BJP continued to dominate the region by winning 41 of them. In 2013, BJP returned to power in MP, winning 31 out of 47 ST seats.

The BJP, which came to power in early 2020 after several Congress MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia switched sides, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that it manages to keep tribal voters firmly in its favor in the state. More than 2.50 lakh tribals are planned to participate in the Tribal Pride Day program to be held at Jambori Maidan here on Monday to mark the birth anniversary of veteran tribal icon Birsa Munda.

Along with the PM, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Governor Mangubhai Patel, himself a tribal, and state party chief VD Sharma are scheduled to participate wearing the traditional tribal cap, party sources said, adding that more than 5,000 buses will be deployed to bring people to the venue. will be deployed for MP. These sources said that arrangements have also been made for their food and stay here.

However, the BJP’s efforts to make the event a grand event mocked senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, who claimed that the MP government was spending over Rs 12 crore to bring crowds to Monday’s event.
