Meghalaya MLAs and Ministers attend 4-day leadership training program

Twenty-eight legislators and three ministers from Meghalaya participated in a four-day training program on leadership and public policy at the Indian School of Business in Mohali, officials said.

He said the training, organized by the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, an autonomous policy think tank of the institute, and the Meghalaya Legislative Research Fellowship Program (MLRF) aims to strengthen the legislative institution and explore leadership challenges and solutions for policy makers.

The workshop culminated on Thursday with the members participating in the Punjab Assembly interacting with the legislators there. Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit also interacted with the members during the special dinner.

“The workshop has sensitized us about the importance of leadership, serving people more efficiently and working for our citizens in a sympathetic and diligent manner. On a personal level, it has definitely encouraged me… to give my best to the state and nation I serve,” Meghalaya game Minister Buntidor Lyngdoh told PTI-Bhasha.

He said it was like sitting in a classroom with classes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, with sessions focusing on policy challenges India In general and Meghalaya in particular.

Along with Bentidor, ministers Hamlet Dohling and Renicton Tongkhar also participated in the training. The workshop provided legislators with insight into research-oriented policy formulation and implementation through case studies, group assignments and team-building activities.

Program Coordinator Dr Aarushi Jain said, “Commanded by faculty experts and experienced practitioners from multiple domains at ISB, the sessions are based on improving micro-understanding of aspects related to public policy, leadership management, innovation, sustainable development, digital transformation and public finance. ” in a statement.

The Institute has been training and mentoring Fellows under a structured two-year MLRF programme. He said that MLA and staff training through this workshop would further enhance the dynamism of work in legislative, procedural and other works in the Vidhan Sabha.

“Meghalaya is the first north-eastern state to start with the Legislative Fellowship Programme, wherein young and highly motivated fellows assist legislators in research and data analysis on issues of importance and urgency of the state,” an official said.

Aiban Swer, director of the Meghalaya Institute of Governance, said the program also helped build and improve rapport among legislators, who, despite their differing political affiliations, work together inside and outside the classroom through group projects and studies. They were seen doing, engaging and learning. The insight and teamwork spirit gained during my stay at the institute will yield significant results back home.
