Mercedes-Benz India said it is cooperating with the authorities in the investigation into the car accident that led to the death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry.

“As a responsible brand that respects customer privacy, our team is cooperating with executives where possible, and we will provide any clarifications directly to them,” the automaker said in a statement.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole in an unfortunate road accident. We are also glad to learn that Anahita Pandole and Darius Pandole are recovering. We wish them a speedy recovery,” the statement said. Wish.”

Mistry (54) and his friend Jehangir Pandole died on Sunday afternoon when their Mercedes GLC 220d 4matic car rammed into a road divider in Maharashtra. The vehicle was the 2017 GLC 220d 4MATIC, equipped with seven airbags in total. The latest variant of the all-wheel drive model comes with a price tag of above 68 lakhs.

It has a ‘Pre-Safe System’ where the front seat belt can be electrically extended in dangerous situations. According to the Mercedes-Benz India website, the GLC’s Pre-Safe system minimizes the forward displacement of riders while braking or skidding in an imminent accident.

The company collected vehicle data earlier today which will be decrypted for further analysis.

According to preliminary investigations, the deceased were not wearing seatbelts, police said, adding that “over speeding and an “error of judgment” by the driver led to the accident.

Sanjay Mohite, Inspector General of Police, Konkan Range, told PTI that other details like tire pressure and brake fluid level of the car would also be examined to ascertain the cause of the accident.
