Mercedes-Maybach unveils limited edition S-Class by fashion designer Virgil Abloh

The limited-run Maybach S-Class was designed in collaboration with the late veteran fashion designer and is limited to just 150 units.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed its final car in collaboration with the legendary fashion designer, the late Virgil Abloh – a limited-run Maybach S-Class. Limited to just 150 units, the limited edition Maybach is based on the fully loaded S680 and features an exterior paint finish that was seen last. Project Maybach concept from late last year, The cabin also gets trimmings and accents to suit the exterior color scheme along with graphics unique to the MBUX system. The limited-edition Maybach was signed by the fashion designer in 2021 before his untimely demise.

Speaking on the project, Gordon Wagner, Chief Design Officer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said, “I am incredibly proud of the work we have created in collaboration with Virgil. From Project Gellandwagen, which led to the creation of our iconic G-Class. With Virgil set the benchmark for fashion/automotive collaborations, up to Project Maybach, which brought the iconic Mercedes-Maybach legacy into the future, with Virgil we truly broke new ground. Virgil Abloh’s limited-edition Maybach innovative design now available on the road and exemplifies the symbiosis between the ultimate craftsmanship.”

The exterior color theme reflects on the inside; MBUX gets custom graphics for the limited edition.

Starting with the exterior, the Maybach S680 draws inspiration from last year’s Maybach concept jointly developed with Abloh. The S680 limited edition is finished in a two-tone paint scheme with the lower half – which includes unique forged alloy wheels – finished in sand color with the pillars, bonnet, roof and bootlid in black.

Inside, the cabin also carries forward the black and sand color scheme with extensive use of Napa leather on the dashboard, steering, doors and seats. The cabin additionally features exclusive Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos on the dashboard, headrest and rear seat cushions. The limited-edition S680 also gets a unique interface to the MBUX system with unique design touches to the interface.

The S 680 is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 that makes a remarkable 603bhp and 900Nm of torque.

There are also custom-made wooden crates wrapped in sand-colored Napa leather by Virgil Abloh with each S680. In the box are a 1:18 scale replica of the S 680 by Virgil Abloh, as well as two seats for keys and a carabiner hook. The limited-edition S680 also gets a unique car cover with Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh branding.
