Meta India head of public policy, India head of WhatsApp resigns

A Meta spokesperson said on Tuesday that WhatsApp’s India head Abhijit Bose and Meta Platforms Inc’s India public policy director Rajeev Agarwal have resigned.

The departures follow the exit of Meta’s India chief Ajit Mohan, who left this month to join rival Snap Inc after four years in the job.

A META spokesperson said that both exits were not related to the current layoffs.

Meta has appointed Shivnath Thukral as its new director for public policy in India and the company will seek a replacement for Mr. Bose, the spokesperson said.

Facebook is facing regulatory challenges in India, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration is tightening laws governing big tech companies.

WhatsAppThe Meta-owned messaging service is seeking to grow its payments service in a highly competitive market and take on more established players such as Alphabet Inc’s Google Pay, Ant Group-backed Paytm and Walmart’s PhonePe.

A few months ago, Manesh Mahatme, head of WhatsApp’s Indian payments business, also resigned to join Amazon India.
