Microsoft has assured Call of Duty on PlayStation for many years

Microsoft has confirmed that the popular gaming title Call of Duty (COD) will be available for PlayStation gamers for many years to come. This update was shared because Sony has an existing deal with Activision for marketing purposes, which includes making games available on its gaming platform.

But Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer was quoted in a report this week as saying that the company plans to serve PlayStation gamers for several years beyond its current deal with Sony.

“In January, we provided Sony with a signed agreement to guarantee Call of Duty on PlayStation, with feature and content parity, for at least several more years beyond the current Sony contract, an offer that would be in line with specific gaming industry agreements. Quoted in a report by Beyond, Spencer was ledge,

Microsoft formally announced the acquisition of Activision Blizzard earlier this year in a massive $68.7 billion deal. Spencer spoke about Microsoft’s continued partnership with Sony to offer popular gaming titles for PlayStation gamers. Interestingly, the Microsoft Gaming CEO did not specify for how many years the game would be available for Sony PS gamers.

Sony has expressed its concerns about the deal, alleging that Microsoft has a greater say in which consoles perform well in the market.

Having out-of-house gaming titles could likely allow Microsoft to adapt them to work effectively on Xbox consoles. Microsoft, for its part, has denied such allegations, and claims that it will continue to serve the gaming industry in an open and fair manner.

The decision to offer COD on PlayStation seems to be one such move to appease competition, regulators, and consumers. But it will have to move in this direction in the coming years, as the investigation is not likely to end soon.
