The forest veterinary officer, who examined the carcass, said the elephant could have died at least 45 days ago and the skeleton was removed about two weeks after its death.

The department had formed five teams to trace the missing tusk.

According to District Forest Officer TK Ashok Kumar, a team found teeth inside the forest on Thursday afternoon.

The department will conduct DNA analysis to confirm whether the teeth found in the forest belonged to an elephant whose carcass was seen on Sunday.
