MK Stalin rides the bus, announces SOAP on completion of one year of his government

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin asked women travelers about free travel facility for them.

Chennai:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today traveled in a state-run Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus and interacted with passengers and later made several public welfare announcements in the state assembly to mark the first anniversary of his government.

While traveling in bus number 29-C on Radhakrishnan Salai (Road) in Chennai, he spoke exclusively to women passengers and inquired about the free travel facility for them.

To celebrate the first anniversary, he made several announcements in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, including providing breakfast for students of government schools and another aimed at ensuring nutrition.

Free bus travel for women was a pre-poll promise made by the ruling DMK ahead of the April 2021 assembly elections in the state.

Mr Stalin paid floral tributes at the memorial of late DMK founder CN Annadurai, and his father and former chief minister M Karunanidhi, at Chennai’s Marina, as his government completed one year in office.

In his announcement, he said that the students of class IV would be provided nutritious breakfast on all working days. He also recalled the various achievements of the government in various fields in the last one year. He reiterated the ‘Dravidian model’ of development of the state and said that it is an inclusive model.

He also announced to set up more urban medical facilities to meet the medical needs of the people more effectively.

After a 10-year stint in the opposition, Mr Stalin led his party-led coalition to an impressive victory against arch-rival AIADMK in the 2021 assembly elections, which also marked his first term as chief minister. He had earlier served as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Karunanidhi-led DMK government in 2006-11.
