MKU’s sacked temporary employees continue to strike

The sacked casual laborers and consolidated wage workers of Madurai Kamaraj University staged a sit-in in front of the statue of Kalainar Karunanidhi in Madurai on Tuesday, demanding restoration.

136 employees were dismissed citing the financial condition of the university. The activists said that no order was given and no proper reason was given for their removal from service.

The activists, who have been protesting continuously for two months, said that there has been no success regarding the restoration. Though he had sent several representations to the authorities, they were not considered. So they will continue their protest.

District Secretary of Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union K. Neeti Raja said that not 136 employees but 136 families are suffering due to removal from service. Most of them had completed 10 years as temporary employees. They were the breadwinners of their families. Due to his dismissal from service, he was unable to make a living.

The sacked employees include security personnel, gardeners, clerks, drivers and office assistants. It was unfair to remove them. He said he was fired when he expected his service to be regular.
