Mock drills will be organized across the country from today to take stock of the preparedness of hospitals amid rising cases of COVID-19. This countrywide mock drill will also happen tomorrow. Officials said on Sunday that Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will inspect the mock drill at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jhajjar today.

On April 7, the Union Health Minister had requested the State Health Minister to conduct a review meeting and observe the mock drill at the hospital. The Union Minister had also advised him to review the preparedness with the district administration and health officials on April 8 and 9.

In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, the health minister lamented that the government is prepared to deal with cases of infection going forward. Arrangements have been made for ICU beds, oxygen supply and other critical care, he said, adding that the preparedness is being reviewed weekly. Kerala has made masks mandatory for hunting women, romantics and people with lifestyle diseases, while Uttar Pradesh has issued a ‘high priority’ directive, directing all officials to ensure the safety of international travelers on air.
