Kolkata: The sky remained cloudy for the people of Kolkata on Tuesday when it rained several times in the morning and evening. The sky is likely to remain cloudy on Wednesday as well and the city is likely to receive light to moderate rain for the second day in a row.
Apart from Kolkata, several districts of South Bengal received thunderstorms. Sanjib said, “At present, a Monsoon Trough is passing through our region towards Bankura, Diamond Harbour, east-southeast Bay of Bengal. This, coupled with a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Bay and adjoining areas, is presently It is causing thunderstorms,” Sanjib said. While cloudy sky and intermittent rain kept the mercury normal on Tuesday, there may be a slight rise in the day temperature on Wednesday, when the weather expects low intensity rain.
Kolkata and parts of South Bengal are facing rain deficient, with the city recording a seasonal deficiency of 36%. Even a week ago, Kolkata’s loss was 41 per cent. GK Das, director (weather), RMC Kolkata said, “Since we are expecting moderate rain in the city on Wednesday as well, the percentage of seasonal rainfall deficiency should further reduce in the next two days.”
Neighboring North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly and other South Bengal districts received good rains on Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in Bankura, Purulia and Jhargram on Wednesday.
