Modi did not campaign from Mainpuri in honor of Mulayam: UP Deputy CM Keshav Maurya

Lotus will now bloom in Mainpuri as Prime Minister Narendra Modi Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Monday said he did not campaign there in the last two general elections as a mark of respect to Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. We all respect ‘Netaji’ (soft). “The prime minister himself told me that he did not campaign in Mainpuri in 2014 and 2019,” Maurya told reporters in Etawah. He said that this time lotus will bloom in Mainpuri too.

Yadav, 82, who passed away on October 10, represented Mainpuri in Parliament. He had won from Mainpuri and Azamgarh seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but left Mainpuri. He won the seat again in the 2019 elections.

The BJP had fielded Prem Singh Shakya in the 2014 and 2019 by-elections and Shatrughan Singh Chouhan in the 2014 general elections against the veteran SP leader. This seat is in discussion since Yadav’s death.

The entire Yadav family is busy with the post-death rituals and now the family has put politics on hold. At the same time, there is a discussion in the political circles that someone from the Yadav family will contest from this seat.

Shivpal Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav and his cousin Dharmendra Yadav are being told as possible contenders from this seat. Shivpal Yadav, who had joined hands with his nephew Akhilesh during the state elections, had a rift with him after the election.

Even before Mulayam’s death, when his health was not good, PSPL president Shivpal had said that he would contest from Mainpuri if his elder brother decided not to contest from there. As his closeness to the BJP increased, speculations were rife that he might contest from Mainpuri with the support of the saffron party.

But Mulayam’s death and the grief that shook his family have apparently brought the uncle-nephew closer, indicating a thaw in their cold relationship. However, the final decision in this regard is yet to be taken by the SP leadership.

The BJP, which has already started preparations for the 2024 general election, has said on several occasions that they will win all 80 Lok Sabha seats, including those in SP strongholds Mainpuri and Rae Bareli, which are represented by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
