Modi is not a dictator, listens to everyone’s opinion: Amit Shah

The Union Home Minister says that the PM talks extensively before taking a decision.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has rubbished the allegation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes unilateral decisions.

in an interview to Parliament TV Broadcast on Sunday, Mr Shah said he had never got a “better listener” than Mr Modi. Asked about the allegations of Mr Modi being a dictator, Mr Shah said that these are baseless allegations. Mr Shah, who has worked with Mr Modi in the BJP, the Gujarat government and now in the central government, said the prime minister heard all the points and had extensive discussions before taking a decision. He said that unlike earlier, the details of the decisions taken are not leaked, leading some to think that decisions are taken unilaterally.

Mr Shah spoke to the government channel last week on Mr Modi’s 20 years in public office – first as chief minister of Gujarat and then as prime minister since 2014.

Speaking about the challenges faced by Shri Modi as Chief Minister, the Home Minister said that school enrollment numbers and school dropout rates are a problem in India and Gujarat. He said that Mr. Modi took up the nomination campaign as a Festival or festival. He said enrollment increased from 67% to 100% and dropout decreased from 37% to less than 1%. “You can understand what was its contribution to the development of the country and Gujarat. An illiterate person becomes a big burden on the country. Neither he knows his constitutional rights nor his duties. How can he be a good citizen,” he asked.

He said that Mr. Modi soon entered the world of administration, he had no experience. He said, ‘Never been a sarpanch, let alone the MLA.

Mr Shah said Mr Modi focused on the upliftment of Gujarat’s tribal population, which the Congress had earlier used “as a vote-bank”. Mr Modi also worked to develop Gujarat’s coastal regions, which became the “backbone of Gujarat’s industrial development”, he said.

Motto of ‘India First’

He said Mr Modi became Prime Minister at a time when the country was down in every field, there were “₹12 lakh crore scams” and “policy paralysis”. He said Mr Modi took risks in decisions because he believed he was in government to change the country. Mr Modi’s primary goal was “India first”, he said. “Only he could have implemented a decision like demonetisation.”

Responding to a question about criticism of Mr Modi over the years, Mr Shah said, “With every criticism, Modiji gets stronger”. People stood with Shri Modi in tough decisions. He said the allegations including corruption and “communal riots” never stuck because Mr Modi has worked with transparency.
