Mohamed Salah, Sam Kerr win PFA Player of the Year Awards

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was named Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year for the second time on Thursday. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr took the women’s award. Earlier in the month of April, the duo also won the Footballer of the Year award by the Football Writers’ Association of England.

The Egyptian footballer also won the award in the 2017–18 season, when Liverpool lifted both the League Cup and the FA Cup, while also reaching the final of the Champions League, where they lost to Real Madrid.

Salah scored 31 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and helped them win the League Cup and FA Cup.

“It’s really cool to win, especially because it has been voted on by the players. It shows you that you worked really hard and you get what you worked for,” Salah said.

“I have my room with the trophies in a cabinet and I made sure I had another one. I always keep in place and just try to imagine that the trophies are going to come,” he said.

Kerr, on the other hand, topped the Women’s Super League this season and became the first Australian player to win the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award.

“Whenever you are voted for by your teammates, I think it is a great honor. I think it is the highest honor as a player, so it is a wonderful feeling,” said Kerr, who He was instrumental in Chelsea’s home-double winning team.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Lauren Hemp retained their trophy for Young Player of the Year. At the same time, former England coach Roy Hodgson and Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s manager Hope Powell received merit awards for their contributions to the sport.
