A CBI official said, “As soon as his name cropped up in the coal smuggling scam, we need to find out what his role was in this. We have evidence of Ghatak’s involvement in this scam.”
Ghatak was not present in any of his residences when the raids were conducted.
“The CBI officials snatched mobile phones from the family members of the state law minister and made them sit in a room at his Asansol residence,” Ghatak said.
When the raids took place, the entire area around Ghatak’s residences was surrounded by central forces.
The agency also conducted searches at four different places in Kolkata in connection with the scam.
Incidentally, Ghatak, the MLA of Asansol North, has once appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials at his office in Delhi for questioning in the coal theft case.
However, he has dropped several other ED summons in connection with the scam.
