A man as an old woman in a wheelchair threw a piece of cake over the glass guarding the Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum on Sunday and yelled at people to think of planet Earth.

In a video posted on social media, a young man in a wig and lipstick is seen sitting in a wheelchair. The man, whose identity was unknown, was also seen throwing roses in the gallery of the museum.

The attack of the cake left a distinctive white creamy speck on the glass but the famous work of Leonardo da Vinci remained unaffected.

Security guards were filmed escorting a wig-wearing worker away as they called out surprised visitors to the gallery: “Think of the Earth. There are people who are destroying the Earth. Think of it. The artists tell you : Think of the earth. That’s why I did it.”

The guard was then filmed cleaning the cream smeared from the glass. Louvre officials were not immediately available for comment.

A 16th-century Renaissance masterpiece has been targeted in the past.

The painting was stolen by a museum employee in 1911, an incident that fueled the painting’s international fame.

It was also damaged in an acid attack by a vandal in the 1950s, and has been kept behind glass ever since.

In 2009, a Russian woman who was angry at not being able to obtain French citizenship threw a porcelain cup at her, breaking the cup but not damaging the glass or the painting.
