The proceedings could not take place due to non-submission of summoning reports to the other accused by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing the case.

A special court in Mumbai on Tuesday adjourned till February 27 the hearing in the money laundering case against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and others.

Rajya Sabha member Raut appeared before Special Judge RN Rokade on Tuesday.

The matter was listed for hearing before framing of charges in the matter.

However, the proceedings could not take place due to non-submission of summoning reports to the other accused by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), probing the case.

The ED had arrested Raut on August 1, 2022, for his alleged role in financial irregularities in connection with the redevelopment of Patra Chawl (row houses) in suburban Goregaon.

A special court here had granted him bail in November last year.

The ED probe pertains to alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl and financial transactions involving Raut’s wife and associates.

Siddharth Nagar, popularly known as Patra Chawl in Goregaon, is spread over 47 acres and houses 672 tenant families.

In 2008, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), a government agency, awarded a redevelopment contract for the chawl to Guru Ashish Construction Private Limited (GACPL), a sister company of the Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL).

GACPL was to construct 672 flats for tenants and some flats were to be given to MHADA. The remaining land was free to be sold to private developers.

But the tenants did not get a single flat in the last 14 years because, according to the ED, the company did not redevelop Patra Chawl and sold the land parcel and floor space index (FSI) to other builders for Rs 1,034 crore.
