Monkeypox: Uttar Pradesh issues SOP; Lucknow hospitals will keep an eye on patients

In view of the rise in the number of monkeypox cases across the world, the Uttar Pradesh health department on Friday directed all hospitals in Lucknow to monitor patients coming with symptoms. The Director of the Infectious Disease Control Program on Thursday issued an advisory to all health officials to follow standard operating procedures regarding monkeypox infection.

The circular, issued by the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Lucknow, to all district hospitals said, “The Infectious Disease Control Department has issued an advisory and followed the same for screening, isolation and collection of samples of patients in all hospitals. goes.” Community Health Centers, Primary Health Centers and Medical Colleges.

“No case of monkeypox has been reported in India so far, but as the advisory has come from the state health department, we have asked all our doctors to be alert, especially if a patient with a history of international travel ( symptoms of monkeypox. Lucknow CMO Dr Manoj Agarwal said.

“Our screening system is in place. We are waiting for more detailed guidelines especially for monkeypox and the same will be followed,” Dr Agarwal said.

Monkeypox has also been reported in some non-endemic countries, including the United States, Britain, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Austria, the Canary Islands, Israel and Switzerland.

Experts have pointed out that monkeypox is not very contagious. The virus is spread only through close contact, i.e. prolonged contact – often skin-to-skin – with an infected person. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that this virus can be controlled with prompt action.
