Monsoon session of UP Legislative Assembly from today; 22 September reserved for women members to express concern

The brief monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly starting Monday will be unique in that it will have a day exclusively reserved for women members.

“September 22 is reserved for women members as per the agenda, which has been approved by the Business Advisory Committee for the House from September 19 to 23. Only women members are allowed to speak after Question Hour on this day reserved for women. Will happen,” Speaker Satish Mahana said.

This is the first time such a practice is being adopted.

Speaker Mahana, in a recent interaction with a group of women MLAs, had assured that a day would be reserved for them in the monsoon session.

Meanwhile, major opposition parties intensified preparations to question the state government on law and order situation, inflation and other issues of public interest in the brief session.

The state assembly will be adjourned for the day on Monday after condoling the death of sitting BJP member Arvind Giri from Gola Gokarnath assembly constituency of Lakhimpur Kheri. Giri passed away earlier this month.

The state government has also proposed to take up legislative work which includes introducing new bills and replacing bills for ordinances issued after the budget session of the state legislature.

As leaders of various political parties have demanded that there should be more sittings in the monsoon session, Khanna reportedly told them that it would depend on how the opposition members conducted themselves in the House.

The state assembly complex has been renovated for the monsoon session and the galleries and lobby have been given a facelift.

“Yes, we have given a facelift to the galleries. Changes have been made to the lobby and the interior of the house as well,” said Mahan.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also inaugurate a three-day health camp for MLAs in the state assembly complex on Monday.

A team of six doctors has been deployed for the MLAs in the three-day long health camp.

Space has been made available in the Secretariat dispensary for medical examination of women members.
