moonlight prank

A corporate chorus has arisen against what is widely referred to as moonlighting or secretly doing a second job. Tech major IBM is the latest to point the finger at it. India and South Asia Managing Director Sandeep Patel termed the practice as unethical, noting that they fully agree to work for the company when recruited. Earlier, Infosys had called it “twice”, while Wipro chief Rishad Premji used the word “fraud” last month. It is clear that this violates professional ethics, and companies have the right to take action against behavior by full-time people that violates their terms of employment. The temptation arises from the supervised blind spots under the Covid-time work-from-home arrangement, who have outdone the pandemic for their convenience and cost and time savings. So, while moonlighting is a no-no, it would be unfortunate if every employee is denied the WFH option due to the misconduct of a few. This would indicate that employers view offices as serving the purpose of a confinement, a dire abomination to “cubical farms”. Ultimately, it is employee dedication that every employer must rely on, whether at home or in the office.
