This year, organizers say more than 600 people from Simcoe and Muskoka took part in five kilometers of walking, running, biking and blazing at their own pace and location.

In total, participants raised $114,161 for youth mental health at RVH.

The money will go toward creating a customized space in RVH’s emergency department, where staff will provide specialized mental health care for youth in a private environment.

“So many families are living with the effects of an alarming boom in youth suffering from mental health problems. “It’s so inspiring to see the community wrap its hands like this,” says RVH Foundation CEO Pamela Ross.

“We are grateful for RBC’s leadership in supporting youth mental health and for the generosity of those who walk or run, and to everyone who sponsors them. This will mean that young people who come to RVH in crisis receive special attention. Will have access to a private, comfortable place to receive care.”

The event culminated on Saturday at Georgian Mall and Tanger Outlets Cookstown, where participants were given race medals, sweet treats and a chance to walk the red carpet.

“Youth mental health is a cause that is close to our hearts. It is important that young people get the help they need,” says Marjoline Huddon, regional president of RBC.

“Many thanks to the entire RVH team for helping connect youth and their families to the right resources. You are really making a difference in their lives.”
